The summer is just around the corner, and that means your feet are officially out of hibernation. Over the winter months, it’s not uncommon for us to neglect our tootsies. It’s not as if they are out and about very often, so it’s easy to forget about them. However, by the time flip flop season arrives, you may look down at your feet and realise there is a lot of work to be done before they are ready to be shown off. So let’s get started on making them beautiful right away!

First: hydrate

Your feet might be looking dull and dry after months of being cooped up inside socks and winter boots. Give them some much-needed hydration with a warm foot bath. Add a specific foot soak product to the water for the best effect. Peppermint foot soaks are especially effective at hydrating and invigorating tired tootsies. Turn on the TV or read a book as you’ll need to soak for at least twenty minutes. Oh, it’s a hard life!

Second: smoothen the skin

Dry skin on the soles of the feet and cracked heels are common problems. If left untreated they can look rather unsightly when wearing sandals or sunbathing in the summer and can make you feel very self-conscious. To get soft, smooth feet use an exfoliating product formulated for feet. Gently scrub all over to remove dead skin. In addition, or instead, you may wish to use a pumice stone to work away at particularly dry areas.

Third: moisturise

Slather your feet in a foot cream or oil to help lock in the moisture and to keep them looking beautiful and feeling soft and smooth. Use this as opportunity to massage your feet (or to get someone else to do it for you). This will stimulate the blood flow to your feet which will help them remain healthy.

Fourth: tidy toenails

Trim your toenails using a specific toenail scissors. They should be cut in a straight line to avoid ingrown nails. Remove any old nail varnish and gently push back the cuticles using a hoof stick. Once you’ve carried out this care, check the appearance and condition of your toenails. Fungal nail problems are common, especially after winter. The most obvious signs include discoloured and hardened nails. If you suspect you have this condition, speak to with pharmacist or doctor about how to treat toenail fungus. They will probably recommend a specific medication to use depending on the cause of the infection.

Five: make them pretty

The last thing to do is to doll your feet up so that they look extra beautiful. Add a bright summery nail varnish to your toenails to make them stand out in your summer sandals and flip flops. You may also want to adorn your feet with some jewellery like a toe ring or an ankle bracelet.

There you have it; beautiful summer-ready tootsies. Keep up this routine throughout the summer and your feet will remain healthy, happy and stunning!
