1. Start the day right

Get up nice and early, and if possible, fit some exercise in before work. While you may prefer to have an extra half an hour in bed and workout after work. By the end of the day, you will most probably be exhausted, and in no state for any workout. That’s why it is a good idea to get up early and workout before work.

Don’t be tempted to skip breakfast. When you are trying to drop a couple of pounds, it can be tempting to skip breakfast, but, this is not a good idea. If you skip breakfast, you will spend the morning hungry and by the time it’s lunchtime, you will want to eat everything in site. Instead of skipping breakfast, opt for a healthy option, such as low-fat yogurt, oats and fruit, porridge or homemade granola (shop bought is not good for you).

2. Prepare meals in advance

Although this may not always be possible, do your best to prepare, or at least plan your meals in advance. If you can find the time to prepare your meals in advance, you will be less likely to deviate from your plan. For instance, if you have already prepared a healthy chicken salad for tea, you have no excuse to order a takeaway.

3. Mix up your workouts

Doing the same workouts day in and day out can become boring, so it is important to mix things up a bit. If you run six days a week, swap two of your running sessions for a different form of exercise, such as an exercise class or trip to the gym.

As well as trying out new things, it is a good idea to find ways to mix up your regular workouts. For instance, if you run the same route each day, think about mixing things up with some different routes.

4. Keep motivated

If you struggle to keep yourself motivated, think about what motivates you. Perhaps having an exercise buddy would help or a perhaps joining a fitness centre like 247 Fitness would help? Whatever it is the motivates you, make sure to add it to your fitness regime.

5. Relax

Making time to relax is just as important as making time to exercise and eat healthily. So, it is important that you set aside time each day to relax.

An excellent way to relax is through meditation-based exercise, like yoga or pilates. To find out more about yoga or pilates classes ask your local gym or fitness centre
