We all have days when we feel sluggish and tired. It’s difficult to concentrate during work or school, and we find our minds drifting. Some of us experience this more than others and find ourselves looking for ways to stay awake during the day. Sometimes we turn to caffeine or just try to will ourselves into alertness. But if you find yourself frequently struggling to stay awake or losing focus, you might need to make some changes to your lifestyle. If you often start drifting off in the middle of the day, try some of these tactics to reduce your chances of falling asleep and improve your concentration.

Get Some More Sleep

If you often find that you’re sleepy during the day, you might not be getting enough sleep at night. Try to sleep for a little longer or perhaps even change your sleeping routine. Instead of staying up late, get an early night and try to get up earlier in the morning too. You’ll feel much better throughout the day if you aren’t waking up groggy and still tired. Alternatively, try to catch a power nap during the day to give you an energy boost. Just don’t sleep for more than fifteen or twenty minutes, or else you’ll feel tireder than before.

Change Your Diet

A poor diet can leave you unable to concentrate and your energy levels low. You should get all the nutrition you need to keep your body running throughout the day and help it repair itself at night. If you tend to munch on unhealthy snacks to give you an energy boost, swap them out for some fruit, vegetables and dip or something else to increase your blood sugar in a healthy way.

Use Dietary Supplements

Another thing you can add to your diet is supplements. Many people use caffeine to keep them awake, but there are other options you can try too. To improve vigilance and alertness, you can take some nootropic substances, such as adrafinil and noopept. They can help to improve cognitive function and your concentration, so you can stay awake and focused on the task at hand.

Exercise More

Sitting around and being stationary can make you feel like you have less energy, not more of it. If you find yourself drifting off in the middle of the day, you might need to move around more. One idea is to exercise when you get up in the morning to energize yourself for the rest of the day. If you start feeling sleepy or distracted in the middle of the day, take a walk for a couple of minutes to get your blood flowing again.

Use Breathing Techniques

Some intelligent breathing techniques can give you an energy boost and make you feel more alert. Do some deep breathing by putting one hand on your stomach and breathing through your nose into your abdomen, then breathing out slowly through your mouth.

You don’t have to put up with feeling tired or distracted during the day. If you find it hard to concentrate, try one of these methods, and you could soon feel much better and be more productive.
